Joe Janicki is 32 years old from New Haven, CT, and makes his living as a designer and fine artist, as well as performing bike stunt and fire shows. He has been competing in a sport called bicycle trials for over 15 years, has numerous podium finishes, and has team sponsorships for clothing and bike parts.
Of course the road to owning an art business as well as becoming a competitive professional cyclist and fire spinner has not been an easy one. Originally, he wanted to further his education in the direction of science, specifically meteorology. He realized, once the fascination wore off, that cranking mathematical formulas and taking atmospheric measurements was not how he wanted to spend his days. Losing motivation, he began drawing to ease his mind.
After changing gears and going back to school for art, he began to make numerous connections in his area. He was able to get things going for himself by finding clients to do design work for, as well as continuing his free art that he also sells, as part of his art business Janicki Designs. Wanting to get into performing with his bike, things began to fall into place as he met his current girlfriend and found out about fire spinning.
With her, and other fire spinning experts, he developed a trials bike that has torches attached to the axles. The fire bike show is the first of it’s kind, combining his ability to spin and jump his bike with fire spinning in an exciting and nail-biting new way. Aside from the fire bike, he has been spinning the devil sticks, otherwise known as flower sticks or juggling sticks, since he was a child. He also spins poi, and is beginning to learn all the different performing props such as staff, sword, rope dart as well as fire eating.
He brings originality, creativity, humor and a healthy dose of honesty the fire spinning scene. He is relatively new to the fire spinning world, having only been performing with fire for 2 years, but has made a name for himself not only for his performing skills but for his unique perspective, honesty and enthusiasm.
